Mr Wapu Sonk has two decades of experience as a Papua New Guinean leader in the oil & gas industry as the industry itself matured from being an oil exporting country to now LNG exporter. He was appointed Managing Director of the National Petroleum Company of PNG in January 2013. He has occupied numerous leadership roles in the Petroleum Industry of PNG since beginning his career with Chevron Nuigini Pty Ltd in 1997. These roles include Director – PNG LNG Project – IPBC (2012), Chairperson of Society of Petroleum Engineers (PNG Section) (2011), Technical Manager, Kumul Petroleum – Managing a Multi Skilled Team of Geologist & Engineers (2010-2011), Drilling & Completions Engineer – Oil Search Head Office – Sydney office, Australia (2007-2009), Night Shift Drilling Rig Operations Supervisor (2006 – 2007) and, Field Coordinator, PNG to QLD Gas Pipeline Project FEED Team – Manage Multinational team (2005). Mr Sonk is also a member of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), Society of Petroleum Engineers (Worldwide), and Institute of Engineers PNG.
Mr Philippe Blanchard has been appointed managing director of Total E&P PNG Limited in May 2014, the operator of PRL-15 licence in Gulf province that holds the fields Elk and Antelope. He has spent all his career in Total Group that he joined in 1993 and has held several positions within the company from technical to commercial and management: exploration geophysicist in Angola at the time of Block 17 discoveries, Development and Planning division in the headquarters in France (for Concept phase and pre-FEED studies). He was later appointed site manager in OML58 producing licence located onshore Niger Delta in Nigeria and held a commercial position in the head office in Paris for Northern Africa.
Philippe Blanchard is graduated from Ecole Polytechnique in France with degrees in Mathematics and Physics and has followed a post graduate master in Institut Francais du Petrole in Geophysics.

Mr Hiroki Sato is one of the foundation members of JERA from Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. now is Chief Fuel Transactions Officer, Senior Executive Vice President of JERA Co., Inc. and Special Advisor of Chubu. He graduated from Keio University, specializing in Marketing Management and has previously worked as a diplomat in Middle East.
He has over 25 years of experience in LNG business. He made several innovative deals such as first MSPA in Asia, joint purchasing, time swap, tripartite SPA, liquefaction tolling agreements in Freeport LNG Project, capacity agreement with European players etc. while in Chubu and JERA.

Mr Dairi Vele is the Secretary for the Papua New Guinea Department of Treasury, a position he has held since August 2013. Interestingly, Dairi is the first Secretary for Treasury in PNG to have occupied the position his father the late Morea Vele held twice before. Dairi studied Economics at the Australian National University where he attained his Bachelors Degree in Economics in the year 2000. Prior to joining Treasury, Mr Vele was twice the Director of the Gas Projects Coordination Office from 2007 to 2010 and 2012 to 2013 where he was heavily involved in the successful negotiation of the PNG LNG project on behalf of the State. He was also the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Company of PNG (NPCP) from 2010 to 2011.

He is a highly experienced international banker having previously held senior roles with HSBC in Saudi
Arabia, Hong Kong, India and Bahrain. Prior to taking up his current role with ANZ PNG in August 2012, Mark had overall responsibility for ANZ’s Corporate Banking activities in Queensland, covering private and public companies, with a particular focus on services to the Natural Resources sector.

Dave is celebrating his 20th year in the E&P industry. Electrical and Electronic engineer by qualification, Dave has spent the majority of his career leading teams in the pursuit of oil and gas exploration. Dave has worked across the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and has been in and around PNG in a variety of roles with a variety of companies since 2004. Dave has been working in the Repsol PNG assets since 2012 taking on the role of Australia/PNG HSE Manager before moving back into operations in the role of PNG Exploration Operations Manager in 2014. Dave has recently taken on the role of Repsol Chief Country Representative for Papua New Guinea, and is excited and passionate to be involved with the development of resources that they have discovered over the past 5 years of exploration. With Repsols global diversity and human talent base Dave is excited about being part of a global company that is concerned with people’s wellbeing and looking to build a better future by developing smart energy.
John Chambers is Santos’ General Manager in Papua New Guinea responsible for Santos’ assets including the PNG LNG Project. Since joining Santos in 2003 John has variously held roles in Santos as Asia Pacific Exploration Manager, President Santos Bangladesh, Country Manager Santos Vietnam, Country Manager Santos India and Exploration Manager Onshore Australia. Prior to joining Santos John worked extensively throughout Western Australia, Southeast Asia and South America for Woodside, LASMO and Venture Production. John has a BSC (Hons) Degree with a Geology major from University of Melbourne and a combined UNISA/UCL MBA with an energy focus. John is married with two daughters.
Susil works as a senior executive with ExxonMobil PNG as National Content Manager responsible for stewarding and reporting on the main components of national content - workforce development, supplier development and strategic community developments.
She has over 10 years’ experience in the development and professional services sector. Her experience covers a wide range of roles including financial auditing & advisory services, strategic business planning, project management and monitoring & evaluation.
Susil has a Bachelor of Commerce degree, from Canterbury University, New Zealand. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Divine Word University, Papua New Guinea.
Susil is the current Vice President (International) of the Business Council of PNG an organisation that represents the private sector in PNG across all sectors, promoting the importance and role of economic growth, freedom and enterprise. She is also a member of Business Coalition for Change (BCFW) and is an active contributor to the Supply Chain Working Group whose aim is to ensure that business opportunity are available to women owned business in supply and distribution networks.
